Denmark Bound | Alumna Maria Tratt
This coming August alumna Maria Tratt (MFA, 2017) will be headed to Denmark. “I’m teaching a one-day linocut workshop and a two-day monotype and collagraph workshop at Tversted Skole, an artist centre in Northern Denmark,” shared Maria.
The workshops will be open to all skill levels and include instructor-led demonstrations and critiques. “To help illustrate what is possible with each technique, I will be bringing with me a variety of my printed works on paper,” said Maria. “I’ll be including some from my most recent exhibition, Findings. I will also share this work at the informal end-of-day discussions, attended by students, other visiting artists and local artisans.”
Maria’s practice takes up the tradition of figurative expression. “My visual art practice draws on personal memory to create painted and printed works on paper,” said Maria. “Through the creation of imagined contexts of origin, my work explores the role of the personal archive, the process of translation, and the theme of the simultaneously intimate and distant.” For more of Maria’s work, please visit her website.
Denmark seems to be a theme among our alumni this summer with alumna Jessie McNeil (BFA, 2013) heading to a one-month artist residency at Aarhus Center for Visual Art.
