Kristina Fiedrich, Annie Briard I Spectral Transmissions I Gallery 295

Alumna Kristina Fiedrich (MAA ’12) is the recipient of Gallery 295’s 2016 Emerging Curator Exhibition. Her exhibition Spectral Transmissions features the works of Annie Briard (MAA ’13 and sessional faculty), Deborah Edmeades, and Emiliano Sepulveda.

An excerpt from Fiedrich’s curatorial essay follows:

“Spectral Transmissions considers the work of art as a sensual, affective being through the interplay of perception and sensation, illusion and the real. In the pursuit to capture the real, imaging technologies generate an apparition from within the artist’s eye, coming into the world. Thus, images appear reflected off, mirrored in, warped and bounded by myriad surfaces. The desire to preserve and suspend a time, a place, and a space suggests that even when the real is seen, in that instant, it just as quickly evades. What can be determined from these apparitions?”

Kristina Fiedrich holds an MA from SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts (’15) in addition to an MAA from Emily Carr (’12) and is currently preparing her first solo exhibition titled The Body Eclectic: under my skin, a splendor of organs for Thompson Rivers University Gallery in Kamloops opening March 11, 2016.
